glyn bigga bush has been producing electronic and sample-based music since the early 90s when he formed rockers hi fi, going on to release numerous albums. since the turn of the century he has produced and dj d as biggabush as well as various side projects such as lightning head (sonar kollektiv), the dandelion set (buried treasure) and the magic drum orchestral (tru thoughts). biggas latest project sunken foal stories represents a departure from much of his other work in that it is not primarily based on beats. instead, his working method was to go with fascinating samples, accidental juxtapositions and irregular loops inspired by pioneers of sound such as faust and the audio experiments of julian house as well as early stereo test records, soundtracks and library music.

aria rostami and daniel blomquist are from san francisco, ca, though rostami has recently moved to brooklyn, ny. rostami and blomquist s work occurs in two stages: the gathering/preparation of source material and the live performance.

scottish producer & dj graeme clark aka the revenge releases his second album ‘when the thrill comes’ on his own roar groove imprint on 11th may 2018. ‘when the thrill comes’ is a demonstration of a producer achieving a point of maturity in their work, able to exercise a sense of restraint, to allow for their sound to have space. it is also the opportunity for the revenge to explore his own electronic music roots with a deeper pared-back sound more in touch with his earliest production experiences in house and techno.

the 30d records machinery does not stop. a new stylistic adventure has been concretized in the new label’s series “eyes have it”, which will be conducted by the well-known sonar and 30d’s resident dj, angel molina, as a&r. the lucio fulci’s movies iconic scary-eyes synthesizes the series essence perfectly. “eyes have it” builds the fundamentals for the boundless experimentation, lightlessness, cold and mechanical dynamics. the ep “shelter” is the very first result of this new proposal, an incontestable work signed by isolated lines. the swiss artist has a solid background in underground music throughout various projects, in and outside of electronics. that means a wider creative resources that can be easily noticeable, for instance, in the music harmonies. avant-garde, solid sound and savoir-faire, that is what defines the isolated lines production. “shelter” ep stylistic codes are crystal clear, brazen obstinacy of the rhythm base which sets the basis for epic distorted textures, that may become deeply emotional, like in the cases of “onshore” and “landfall”. steadfast rhythmic cycles on slamming sound mantras. furthermore, the ep includes an industrially nervous revision of “onshore” constructed by 30drop. isolated lines’ “shelter” ep is an utterly flawless starting point for this strongly promising new 30d series. so henceforth, keep always an eye on “eyes have it”!

as a polychrome composer, laurent perrier is developing his work through a large number of projects which, although they often share many common points, are all built on a strong identity. thus, zonk t has always been a way of exploring the most ambient fringes of dub, and the transition from the all-digital to compositions made entirely on modular synthesizers has overall not changed its approach in depth. yet, banburismus, whose unlikely title comes from the crypto-analytical process developed by alan turing during the second world war, begins by taking us by surprise with a long luminescent drone that seems to rise endlessly before dissolving little by little in a wall of echoes, glitches and distorted voices then make way to round and deep basses disturbed by metal peaks on which float distant blips, like farway echoes of the secret messages decoded by turing. real master stroke, this track occupying the first face of the lp is a trip in an ether much more populated than it seems. shorter, the three pieces of the b side participate in the same atmosphere, but still extend the sonic field. more stripped, more airy, more cosmic, banburismus achieves there new heights with ease. we could be tempted to play the game of references and try to put zonk t somewhere amongst the great experimenters of electronic dub. but who cares,, banburismus is well beyond categories, and laurent perrier, by cracking the code, opens for us the doors of a universe of disturbing and fascinating vastness.

for the past two years, flee has been working on its first issue entitled benga music – a signature genre from kenya. conceived as an attempt to document a kenyan timeless music genre – benga – this issue is also a visual and audial tribute to the heritage of east african music. approaching this musical genre with a new and innovative perspective, the first release of flee features a vinyl compilation and a printed journal. faithful to the local essence of the genre while transcending unproductive nostalgia, the two objects ensure that the vibrant traditional roots of the benga movement interact with a contemporary approach. to make this initiative possible, we joined forces with celebrated kenyan journalists, ondiso madete and emmanuel mwendwa, and collaborated with renowned international specialists such as douglas paterson. this great team work translated into a well-documented manuscript, with exciting articles, exclusive authentic photos of the era and creative present-day illustrations celebrating the genre. accompanying the journal, the record tells a surprising story, starting with the pioneers of benga (daniel owino misiani, george ramogi and the migori superstars) and concluding with the modern respectful re-interpretations of nik weston, jaakko eino kalevi, and africaine 808, blowing the dust of the original scores.

aus music follow up a string of exclusive releases from primitive trust with tee mango (one half of pt) having released on clone in 2017 tee mango comes back to aus for his second ep in as many years. ep#2 carries forth much of the the same classiness hes well know for. a side ‘come a little closer samples a personal favourite make it last forever by inner life which is paired with playful drum rhythms and smooth rhodes chords. prototypical opts for punchy drums and a swinging bass, a track that would work as well peak time as it would warming up. wazoo rounds off the perectly balanced ep a deep cruiser with a pinch of acid.

amir alexanders 2nd full lp lands, this time on the powerhouse of just jack recordings providing a journey through techno, acid and house. from the space-age melodies and overdriven synths of lemmings off a cliff!, to the pounding acid & infamous my house vocal on in the beginning!, the lp starts with a bang. halfway through the broken beat and blippy rude boy! stands out, along with the big room gospel house gold of blessed are the meek! weep not! takes it full circle matching a similar distorted bass to the opener with some exquisite synth work. no wonder all the titles have exclamation marks this is 8 tracks of serious tackle!

berlin based jens dohle is a man of many talents. an accomplished composer and arranger for theatre productions across europe, classically trained multi instrumentalist, explosive live drummer for ye:solar, munk, hot coins, sado opera. longtime collaborator with danilo plessow aka mcde and noema from african shakedown fame. remixer for jazzanova and 4 hero. there s not enough room here to list his amazing work. 2018 ushers forth a new identity to his already enviable c.v with his first ep as james dole (a jokingly anglicised version of his birth name). the 3 tracks here all showcase his ability to create a strong mood and use great splashes of melody and rhythm but without ever losing the groove. written during a period of introspection in deepest, darkest berlin, each one tells a different story. ex is a moody monster of a track. it builds and builds into a pounding nightime symphony with a kind of epic-ness which hints at many years spent mining the highs and lows of music, love and life. big room yet with a gut wrenching soul beneath the slightly flamboyant majesty. made in east berlin and well road tested in the cities debauched nightclubs. fantasia shows off mr doles jazz and broken beat background with rolling, funky drums sashaying with hip hoppy live jazz keys. then those signature euphoric yet melancholic synths appear halfway through the track to create an emotionally halcyon mood. wibes. the ep closes with grande. super melodic yet cinematic with amazing synth work and a sophisticated arrangement showcasing james s well trained musicianship and artistry. an opus of melody and longing built for italian arthouse films about unrequited love. dj support from - midland, honey soundsystem, sandrino, jimpster, ame, dvs1, shadow child, joe goddard, red rack em, futureboogie, soft rocks, domenic cappello, downtown party network, danny russell

ab syndrom, the berlin duo, is coming with their third album. plastik is a bit like the coming of age album of the band. it tells stories of growing up emotionally and being played into a hard and post capitalistic environment. nevertheless you will find some quite romantic lyrics and songs between lyrical metaphors and a rough and urban reality in berlin neukölln, their neighborhood. the music on plastik is mainly a percussion driven and electronic laden journey. not your average pop arrangements but subtle compositions and laid back vocals with a certain chopped and screw twist. the bands musical projection is a most consequent advancement of their three albums and their body of work so far. bennet seuss, singer and composer is defining his own style in writing autobiographic lyrics with a certain twist to the obscure and umtransparent. a great album for sure.

rocco universal, based in tokyo, arrives on when i met you records third release with a slick disco work out. fresh from his release on leng, rocco brings in the boogie. previous releases on on when i met you from label owner ten ven have generated multiple radio 1 plays across the dance specialist shows as well as a global club support.

after recent outings from the likes of felix leifur and tlim shug, frits wentink is back on his own bobby donny label. his previous releases have been solo affairs but this time he is in collaboration with tristan hallis aka dj boring. the origins of london based dj & producer lie in australia, where he was raised and cultured amongst some of the most interesting musical phenomena of the 21st century a1 is an inventive tune with bristling drums and break beats run through with warped vocals, razor sharp hi hats and mellow padts deep but dynamic and will get you on your toes. b1 then chops up more trippy vocal samples and curious synth sounds with elastic, pinging kick drums and makes for something woozy yet groovy and full of intrigue. last but not least, b2 channels classic deep house vibes with balmy pads, garage style percussion and more slick drum work that really brings something fresh. this is a trio of cuts that bring the best out of each producer and results in truly original music.

founded in 2018 by dj and producer deni-shain the man behind acclaimed compilations space echo and pop makossa, atangana records is the logical follow-up to more than 20 years of travels, constantly on the lookout for new artists and music around the world. as a tropicalist globetrotter in this new project deni-shain, in partnership with thomas vicente, co-owner of the french restaurant le verre vole, aims to dig, reproduce & transmit cross-cultural music, usually unreachable and/or less known by the public. the goal is simple: share the love of music and to rediscover the pleasure of voicings, percussions and sadly forgotten harmonies, whether you find yourself in a jam packed club or the intimacy of your home. atangana’s first releases will be looking at the caribbeans islands, especially into haiti with the reissue highly expected by various diggers of the acclaimed single divizion by singer fedia laguerre. originally released in 1981, this first 12inch comes with a remix by voilaaa and an instrumental cut exclusively based on the additional work by the french afro-collective.

for alan oldham, artistic expression is a way of life, taking multiple forms and medi-ums throughout his lifetime. before he was ever known as dj t-1000, he was a published car-toon artist and radio dj in detroit writing press releases for underground resistance to get by. one day, underground resistance was in need of a last minute dj for their tour in aus-tralia, and a door flew open for alan oldham. with passport in hand he departed on his jour-ney as a dj, which little did he know would eventually span continents. influenced by every-thing around him, his work has dynamically changed and evolved along with his life. currently as an international dj living in berlin, his latest creation is the acidspace ep, released by elypsia records under the detroitrocketscience name. the traveler himself takes us on an intergalactic adventure, beginning with acidspace (8:48). with a steady beat and a unique blend of serene space sounds, this jam excites the imagination for the journey to come. it is followed by rocket to berlin (7:20), a subtle and intricate mix that entices one to enter the unknown. vesta system (6:22) finishes the ep off on a note that leaves lis-teners grooving and enjoying the ride. creativity and sweet sounds are what its all about for alan oldham. with his recent musical shift to mellower, sci-fi inspired jams, he continues to let listeners see for themselves.

an artist as versatile as alex krüger is a rare find these days, not only did he release numerous eps and albums as tigerskin or korsakow since the mid 90s, hes also been on the forefront of the dub techno movement since 1999 with outings on classic labels such as raum…musik, force tracks and 3b/ united states of mars. now ten years after his last album on opossum recordings alex is back with this well crafted genre bending full length caves & cages. from deep techno cuts through rippling ambient excursions to funky reggae infused live jams with haushausen this work is yet another milestone in the creative bubble alex lives in (i.e. his studio)

mikkel metal returns to copenhagen’s echocord this may with his new mini lp ‘just enough light’, comprising six originals from the danish artist. copenhagen based producer and dj mikkel metal has been a beacon of light in the danish electronic music scene and further afield for nearly two decades now, with the dub techno imprint from his hometown, echocord, being the predominant home for his output, whilst also releasing material on cologne’s kompakt, tartelet, semantica and avant roots, a telling sign of the quality embodied in his work. here though we see mikkel deliver a mini album concept in the shape of ‘just enough light’ and opener ‘awake’ perfectly sets the tone with emotive, dynamically unfolding atmospherics, tension building bass drones and spiraling dub chords subtly easing us into the project. ‘bregnan’ then stirs in some classing dub-techno tropes with billowing stab sequences, lumpy subs and off beat high hats carrying the hypnotic groove for six and a half minutes. ‘jech’ then strips things back to an almost beatless amalgamation of murky chords and modulating synth whirrs. opening the flip side of the release is ‘include’ which embraces a brighter feel via ethereal pad swells, jazztinged synth melodies and bumpy 909 rhythms before ‘konkin’ edges back into the eerie, brooding aesthetic with bubbling echoes, broken drums and menacing bass swells at its core. ‘restore’ then closes the package on a stripped-back vibe, laying focus on an ever- eveolving singular dub chord to ebb and flow around thunderous subs, kicks and bright hats.

rather than rely on their usual full band, live performance, one-room live single recording session, the making of ‘dragonz’ was a departure for the apples. a multi-studio project spanning three continents, they assembled new instrumental tracks based on loops created in the studio and presented them to a wide-ranging selection of vocal collaborators to complete the picture with, and applied this method to the capturing of longstanding live favourites as well. the concept of a “vocal album” was implemented on non-vocalist songs as well, treating the omnipresent turntables’ sample work not as the central element to the band, but rather its frontman. though containing disparate influences, guests and production methods, ‘dragonz’ is undeniably apples, might be their most focused lp to date, and it is certainly their most middle-eastern. elements of the region’s indigenous genres have always been present in the band’s work, but never has their influence been as pronounced.

seb zito has been one of the main movers for fuse london since the labels inception and his good to me ep continues the producer/djs accent. take no one kicks things off, its 90s tech-house influence being worn on it s sleeve with it s no nonsense b-line driven groove. so good to me delves somewhat deeper, pads and synth work offering up warmth for a blissful 4am ride. hit ends things with an altogether quirkier affair.

the barcelona based record store and label run by dj bruce lee is very proud to release the first work from tr, a well known dj in the madrid underground scene. tr was responsible for one of the remixes from the first release on the label. that remix was techno, but his tastes embrace many different styles as we can see now. multi ep is the second release on rhythm control barcelona where tr, colaborates with causmin lizou on the keyboard for the b side tracks. the a side contains 2 90s infuenced breaks and electro tracks titled bassaur and eah (part 1.2 & 3). the b side contains 2 detroit influenced house tracks, fingers de pollo and gitroit highlights. a producer worth following without a doubt!

dimensional people is by it’s nature a collaborative album. originally premiering as a spatial composition using object-based mixing technology playing with the possibilities of sonic design (4d sound) and collective musicianship, the recording expands upon these ideas. dimensional people expresses itself as a dynamic 50-piece orchestra, telling a story in sound. mouse on mars offer sound as a means to encourage open-minded societies, aided by cutting-edge technology including their own mominstruments music software or a spatial mixing technique called object based mixing, with which a spatial version of the work was created. it is a conceptual puzzle composed around one harmonic spectrum within one rhythmic scheme, mostly in the tempo of 145bpm (inspired by chicago footwork, so the dance ?oor is not entirely absent). looking ahead, dimensional people will also be realized through installation, presenting the work as an immersive listening experience, as well as performance.

the 20/20 vision offshoot basic vision continues to mine the folklore of the legendary back to basics with a selection of carefully selected deep cuts from the history of house music. chris cuevas hip hop already sounded strong when masters at work chunked it up in dub form, and then rob mello perfected the jam when he performed an extended edit on the breakbeat fuelled jam. eddie fowlkes where will i be? is a classic slice of 90s vocal house, while free energy is an uptempo deep house jam for those feel good peak time moments. black science orchestra sound utterly timeless on the soaring new jersey deep, laying the soul on thick and keeping things fresh and funky throughout.

australian man of mystery privacy returns to klasse wrecks after a 3 year hiatus and the wait has most certainly been worth the while. four original tracks make up the new product ep, with the artist exploring new styles and tempos. ranging from electro-speed to stomp-wave, each track is a masterclass in the style of privacys ever expanding body of work.

new to the stay underground it pays gang, the 11h release on the label comes from one of the most elegant japanese producer we ve heard in ages: motomitsu! we get the chance to get 5 cuts on one ep which is almost a mini album introducing you guys to his astonishing sound. born in 1977 hamamatsu, japan motomitsu is a japanese artist, dj, children s book author, musician, poet, event organizer living in paris. he crosses freely the border of music and arts, literature. he is publishing his children s books and releasing his music. he plays dj as a member of dj team-cracki- in paris, also play the keyboards and accordion for some bands. his art work is influenced by music and poem. he has released tracks on various labels such as cracki, soirée records (detroit) & cherry juice. all in all, another wonderful release that feels straight at home in the stay underground it pays catalogue. skylax always.

irazu returns to stale after his acclaimed “shtamm” with regis in 2017. this time pessimist take charge on the remix duties, filling a dense and energetic long play vinyl where irazu shows his strongest work to date.

losoul returns to action with his first long player in almost ten years, and delivers a stunning collection of compositions for the hypercolour released island time. otherwise known as peter kremeier, the german producer has mesmerized us for many years with his organic and emotive house music, largely released on the influential playhouse label, but of late has seen him release singles for karat and tardis records, as well as his very own another picture label. fans of losoul wont be disappointed, as a diverse yet utterly familiar sound aesthetic pours out over the albums seven tracks in his own inimitable style. the jazzy broken beats of gold tooth shine with their micro-sample chops, whilst mean time is a dense and dubby slow stomp, teasing the drums with space echo and injecting sparse bass work where it matters. inventive, spongy house grooves are delivered on boppin lower and square down smoother whilst the album closer, lava in you is a master class in ambient sonics and shimmering keys over a lo-fi swinging groove. its been over 20 years since losouls signature single open door, and the german producer continues to pour out honest and rewarding music.

steve bicknell is currently having a moment. when you look at his recent releases, his growing number of gigs, his eye-catching collaborations and his new record label 6dimensions, it seems he’s feeling particularly inspired. resident advisor steve bicknell has been an integral and highly-important segment of the underground electronic scene since the early ’90s and has continued to expand his musical horizons through producing, promoting and playing” hyponik “bicknell has shaped a scene from the shadows for decades thanks to the legendary lost parties he co-ran, which brought djs like jeff mills and robert hood to the uk for the first time, as well as his own production work the vinyl factory an underground leader announces his return. his 6dimensions label seems to have reinvigorated him the arts desk.

this is essential tremor’s second and final album of all time. the band broke up after the recording of this record but still managed to play one final show before fully breaking up. the show was one of the most brutal things nashville, tn has ever witnessed and lead singer cole k was banished from nashville forever following the performance. essential tremor’s work never quite fit in with the rest of what was occurring in nashville around the time these tracks were recorded, but we re sure that this tape will fit right in with the rest of your collection.

ghent based pianotrio steiger have earned their place in the ever growing peloton of young belgian jazz innovators. as a result, they won the young jazztalent price at the 2017 gent jazz festival. with their luscious and rigid grooves in minimalistic framing, they cose themselves between schntzl and de beren gieren, likewise minded young beljazzbands that don’t take it so closely with traditions. they play jazz with a rock’n’roll attitude. sdban ultra is very pleased to present a sampler of their debut album ‘and above all’ on a limited 10” vinyl for record store day 2018. this release marks their introduction on sdban ultra, their sophomore album is expected next fall. ‘and above all’ houses both jazz and modern compositions, avant-garde and experimental electronics. steiger takes inspiration from jazz and refers to the traditions but equally pulls those apart, for example in the chaotic miniature bachfag and in the intimate inverse/reverse . with berlin revisited the band clearly chooses electronic instrumentation. it is reminiscent of the electronic jazz of the noughties: bands like triosk, sofa surfers and flanger did not so much work towards jazz but used the genre as a stepping stone to dive into the cosmos. steiger are launching themselves into infinity on this track with a pounding beat, shrill cymbals, overdriven keys and an unwieldy bass.
